Home Security Alarms
6 MINUTES
The average time burglar will spend trying to break in your house is about one minute + he’ll spend no more than five inside, tearing the place up trying to find something to steal before he loses his nerve, or before you or the cops can catch him. The FBI says that every :15 seconds a burglary occurs in a home, apartment, or condo in our country. Those statistics are a little frightening. But in most cases, burglary is one of the easiest crimes to prevent.
Burglars are lazy and rarely think through their actions. Most are crimes of opportunity. The majority of burglaries take place during daylight hours when homeowners are at work. The secret is to deny the easy target, and to advertise to the would-be thief that your home is not going to be worth the hassle.
In addition to good locks and making your house seem occupied, (a radio left on, lights that trigger on and off at night), a home security system is one of the best deterrents to property crime that you can own. A study at Temple University tells us that a home equipped without a security system is three times as likely to get broken into. Very few break ins are elaborately planned crimes by Hollywood style criminals. Thieves are generally looking for a speedy entry and exit, an unoccupied home, cover to hide from view, and evidence of something worth stealing.

By putting in a simple, inexpensive alarm system
, you can send your neighborhood hoodlum on down the block to someone else’s house or apartment. This simple, wireless setup that can be working in a few minutes. No holes to drill, no wires to run through walls, and it has extra features like panic buttons, remote arming, and has the option for 24-7 police or alarm company monitoring. The built in alarm siren will send any intruder running.
Wireless security systems are easy to install in almost any house, apartment or townhome. Recent technology has made wireless sensors as dependable as their wired counterparts. They are also easy to move (for apartment living), and can be outfitted with the same types of sensors, accessories, and monitoring services as traditional built in units. In addition to entry sensors and break in detectors, newer home alarms can interface with wireless security cameras. This unit supports infrared, magnetic door, vibration, and microwave sensors, and when optional wireless cameras are in use with it, security video will be recorded when an intruder is detected. Attach it to your phone line and you can activate or deactivate it remotely as well as be alerted when the alarm is triggered.

Prices continue to come down on systems like these. In many cases, the small cost that is incurred can be offset by a savings in your homeowner’s insurance premium. (Check with your insurance agent.) Be sure and install the types of detection that your policy calls for. Anything that you can do to make breaking into your home difficult or impossible will lessen your chance of becoming his next victim. Remember, he wants an easy and quick entry and exit. Always place decals in your windows and/or yard signs that notify would be thieves that you do not intend to let them quietly try to get inside your home.
